Less than a year and a half ago, Jack Sock was surfing on that huge wave he picked up at the end of 2017 when he won Paris Masters and had a chance to play at the ATP Finals, pretty much out of nowhere. With those points, the American had been ranked inside the top-20 until October last year but there was little he could do to add more points to his tally and continue where he left in 2017, winning just nine matches on the Tour in the previous season and finishing outside the top-100 for the first time since 2013. Ironically, Jack had a stellar season in doubles, winning Indian Wells, Wimbledon, US Open and the ATP Finals to put the singles results aside even more but with plans to change that at the beginning of 2019.
The struggling American was beaten in the opening round of the Australian Open, falling to Alex Bolt in four sets to hand the first Grand Slam win to the Aussie and continue his terrible run from 2018 and Melbourne as well, losing in the opening round a year ago as well. To make things worse, Jack had to undergo surgery at the beginning of February, repairing torn ligaments in his finger and missing all the action in the last four months. After being sidelined from New York, Delray Beach, Indian Wells, Miami and the entire clay season, Sock should be back at Baptist Health Little Rock Open in the second week of Roland Garros on hard court, his first Challenger since Savannah 2014 when he lost to Nick Kyrgios in the title match.
The winner of two Challenger titles is currently ranked 155th and will try to make a steady comeback in the capital of Arkansas at this inaugural Challenger event, joined by Hyeon Chung, Ryan Harrison, Michael Mmoh and Donald Young.
