In an interview with Tages Anzeiger, 15-year-old American Cori Gauff explained why she joined forces with Team8, the management company started by Roger Federer and his agent Tony Godsick. Gauff said: "Roger is a legend, a role model to follow in tennis and with his experience and contacts, they can definitely help me a lot. That was the idea. Obviously we already spoke, we meet each other especially in the Grand Slams. I do not see him that often outside of those tournaments. I do not even have Roger's number," she joked. "I am not always followed by an agent, I am always on the road with my father even here."
Asked how she will handle the next few months, Gauff replied: "I will mostly spend time with my family, and I hope to get to Orlando, Disney World. All that I have to do is to convince my mother. I do not have goals this year tennis-wise. I already achieved all that I had hoped for.
On how her experience at the US Open was like - she lost to Naomi Osaka in the third round and they had a joint interview on the court - Gauff concluded: "It did not make me empty mentally. This is how I am and it helps me. But what I learned: Grand Slams are much more intense, they are different matches than the ones in Linz. Many more things happen."
