Croatian tennis star Borna Coric admitted it wasn't easy against world No. 246 Pedja Krstin when they clashed at the Adria Tour event in Zadar on Sunday.
Coric, ranked at No. 33 in the world, entered the match as the big favorite and beat Krstin 4-3 (4) 4-3 (2) in his last group match.
Coric saved three consecutive break points in the second game of the match but then saved two break points in the following game.
The Croatian failed to convert a set point in the sixth game but kept his focus as he claimed the set a couple of minutes later in the tie-break.
As Coric failed to realize the lone break point of the second set -- which he had in the fifth game -- the set once again had to be resolved in a tie-break.
Krstin made a fine start to the tie-break as he opened up an early 2-0 lead but Coric then stormed back to win seven points in a row and collect a straight-set win.
"Absolutely yes (I had to put up a big effort against Krstin). I would even say that I think that he should have won the first set. I think he should have broken me at 1-1 in the first set. I think he should have broken me there and that he was better (in the first). In the second set I maybe played a bit better. It was a great match, I'm satisfied, everything was great," Coric told Sport Klub.
Borna Coric worked hard on gaining muscle massTwo-time ATP champion Coric used the Tour suspension to add muscles to his body and heal some minor injuries.
"Yeah, I absolutely did. We (me and my fitness coach) worked from the beginning -- once they declared a pandemic -- we went to a house outside the city, where we made some type of gym. We isolated from everything and trained there for five or six weeks, I'm not 100 percent sure. I think we did a great training block and I was extremely happy because I hadn't had a chance in a long time to do something like that -- to reset, to heal some minor injuries who had plagued me for quite some time," Coric revealed.
Borna Coric finished the group in Zadar with two wins and one loss but it wasn't enough for him to make the final.
