Carlos Costa's press release about Rafael Nadal's withdrawal from Acapulco

Rafael Nadal's agent, Carlos Costa, has confirmed in an official press release to TennisWorldUSA the reasons why the former world number one has decided not to play the upcoming tournament in Acapulco, Mexico. We publish here below the entire press release as received from Carlos Costa:

'Recently, some incorrect information have been published on different media outlets about the non-participation of Rafael Nadal to the upcoming tournament of Acapulco. I would like to clarify through this press release the real reasons behind his withdrawal in this year's edition of the tournament.

Rafa has decided not to take part to the tournament in Acapulco for reasons that are connected to his current health status, to the calendar and to the situation connected to having to undertake such a long trip, taking into account the current circumstances we are currently facing.

As it is well known, Rafa has recently come back from the Australian Open in Melbourne with a problem on his shoulder and he is still recovering from the injury. This is the reason why he also decided he will not take part to the upcoming tournament in Rotterdam, Netherlands, where he had previously enrolled. At the same time, given the cancellation of the Masters tournament in Indian Wells and the delay of the start date for the tournament in Mexico, Rafa has decided to not travel to Acapulco this year.

His program and his calendar for the upcoming weeks still remain to be seen once he recovers from the injury suffered to the shoulder. It is therefore clear, and above any doubt, that his withdrawal from the tournament in Acapulco is not connected to any type of agreement with the tournament organizers'.
